For Authors
Submit Proposal
CityU Press always welcomes book proposals, whether from first-time or more experienced authors. We publish two main types of publications: academic publications and general publications.
Academic Books, as the name implies, are highly academic in nature; they include books of original finding and topics likely to contribute significantly to the fields concerned. There is a double-blind review process. The manuscript must be reviewed by one or two authorities in the field. The Editorial Sub-committee will decide whether or not to publish the proposed manuscript. The decision is based largely on the strength of the reviews. As most of the reviewers are heavily committed to research and teaching duties, the whole process can be rather long. it is not unusual for a review process to take as long as 6 months to a year.
General Books, on the other hand, are informative and educational in nature and they are likely to sell enough copies to re-coup the production cost. They must also be approved by the Editorial Sub-committee before the Press can take it up for publication.
If necessary, our editor will meet the author in person to discuss the project in more detail. If both parties find the project viable, the Press will submit the project to the Editorial Sub-committee for formal approval. Once the Press gets the green light from the Editorial Sub-committee for publication, the Press will work together closely with the author with a view to bringing out a fine book as soon as possible.
